Guilty Selfishness

Do you ever have that good song or band, the one that's sort of popular, but not on the mainstream radio stations? It's your little secret, the one that you're proud to introduce to your friends, because you know they won't know it. When someone asks you the name, you feel a burst of pride, a raise in your self-esteem. You adore this song, as, for the moment, it is your song. You can listen it non-stop, and it's the only thing anyone will hear you sing ages afterward.
And then, somehow, it hits the radio. Everyone is singing it, and you feel as if your secret is ruined. You curse it for have the perfect ratio of alternative to catchy pop. It doesn't have the the same feeling when you listen to it, as it is not so special anymore. When you mention the song now, everyone knows it. If you say, "I knew it before it hit the stations," they would think you're begging for attention, and though you are, it wasn't meant in that way. Your feelings are conflicted, as you are angered by its popularity, but on the other hand, this would be very good for the artist's career. You pray that they will not change, that they won't all of a sudden start banging out catchy, crappy, pop songs. But, alas, it is done, there is nothing you can do to change it. Soon, people will forget, and it can go back to being your little secret.
